The (2 + 2 = 4) Story
This newsletter is built on several concepts. This next story describes how, on any given day,  you can learn a new  simple idea, something you didn't even know existed, that changes all the tomorrows of you life...
Picture
There was a day in your life when you were a "little person" and you were in elementary school. On one of those days, you woke up ---not--- knowing, "2 + 2 = 4". Sometime that day, your teacher explained to the class, "2 + 2 = 4". One by one, your classmates got it. That afternoon, as you left school, you knew and understood, "2 + 2 = 4". Knowing this new piece of information improved all the tomorrows of your life.
No longer could anyone take advantage of you at the checkout counter.  When you laid two, one dollar candy bars, and two, one dollar bags of cookies on the counter, you knew for certain, the only dollar amount the person could ask you for was four dollars. A simple illustration but, a great example of the concept behind this newsletter.
Providing you with the kind of "ideas that improve all the tomorrows of your life" is the mission statement of the "IQ Morning Report."  As you learn and apply the ideas presented here, your life will never be the same again. (JV)

47 Mind Blowing, Psychology-proven Facts You Should Know About Yourself
Picture
SUSAN WEINSCHENK
The Brain Lady Blog
I've decided to start a series called 100 Things You Should Know about People. As in: 100 things you should know if you are going to design an effective and persuasive website, web application or software application. Or maybe just 100 things that everyone should know about humans!  The order that I’ll present these 100 things is going to be pretty random. So the fact that this first one is first doesn’t mean that’s it’s the most important.. just that it came to mind first. (LEARN MORE)

Why you should treat your brain like an unruly child.

I don’t trust my brain. It’s got some good qualities, sure, but it needs constant supervision. It’s like an unruly Boston terrier – left to its own devices, it will scamper off and rummage through the garbage can, spreading rotten guacamole all over the house. In my brain’s case, this means the hours spent wallowing in unrealistic worries, time-wasting regret and elaborate revenge fantasies. My brain needs constant tugs on its leash to redirect it. And I think I’m not alone. Most brains are like that. So who should supervise my brain? Since I’d rather not have an NSA-implanted chip monitoring my thoughts, I have to monitor my thoughts myself. I have appointed myself my brain’s babysitter.  Which is why I spend a lot of time thinking about the contents of my thoughts. Dozens of times a day, I like to ask myself: “Hey, what are you thinking about? Is that a good use of your brain?”  (READ MORE)

RELATIONSHIPS: The secret to ---desire--- in a long-term relationship.
Picture
Ester Perel
In long-term relationships, we often expect our beloved to be both best friend and erotic partner. But as Esther Perel argues, good and committed sex draws on two
conflicting needs: our need for security and our need for surprise. So how do you sustain desire? With wit and eloquence, Perel lets us in on the mystery of erotic intelligence.

HEALTH: "The 90 Minute Rule" to ensure a refreshing night's sleep.
Picture
(LifeHacker.com)  It seems more nightmarish than ever to get a decent night of sleep and feel good after it. If you'd like to wake up refreshed every morning instead of groggy and grumpy (no matter how little you might sleep), remember the 90-minute rule.  It's all about timing your bedtime so you wake up at the end of a sleep cycle (which is 90 minutes on average) instead of in the middle, when you're in a deeper stage of sleep.  (LEARN MORE)

SPIRITUALITY:  Top 10 benefits of spiritual practice
Picture
What is spiritual practice? Furthermore, do you have one?  Simply put, I define spiritual practice as something you do every single day that draws you deeper into who you really are by connecting you with your divine self.  Please don't be put off by the word spiritual here! Spiritual doesn't have to entail -- though it often does -- meditation cushions, prayer beads, chant books, yoga mats or any other such paraphernalia. A spiritual practice might be baking, gardening, running, knitting, playing piano, painting, hiking, meditating, golfing, doing yoga, tai chi or calligraphy. It is not so much about the form but about the profound and connective quality of the time spent within it. (LEARN MORE)
