(Entrepreneur.com) "If it has to happen, then it has to happen first,” writes Laura Vanderkam, time management expert and author of “What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast.” Those among us who have managed to find professional success and eke out a life actively embrace this philosophy. They must set aside their first hours of the day to invest in their top-priority activities before other people’s priorities come rushing in. Science supports this strategy. Vanderkam cites Florida State University psychology professor Roy Baumeister’s famous finding that willpower is like a muscle that becomes fatigued from overuse. Diets, he says, come undone in the evening, just as poor self-control and lapses in decision-making often come later in the day. On the other hand, early mornings offer a fresh supply of willpower, and people tend to be more optimistic and ready to tackle challenging tasks. (Learn More)

(Entrepereur.com) If you want to stand out as a leader, a good place to begin is by listening. Any organization’s best assets are its people, and if you are ready to help the team to achieve its goals, you can start gathering information on how to move things along just by paying attention to what employees are saying. This skill will help you throughout your career. Leaders who are great listeners are often terrific at uncovering and putting in place strategies and plans that have a big impact. (A term one of my editors suggested is “force multipliers.”) (Learn More)

(YogaLifeSpark.com) Do you take care of yourself? For real? Sure, you might enjoy the occasional green smoothie or make a point to move your body semi-regularly. But do you really take full and complete care of your body, mind and soul? Regardless of what your goals are in life, you won’t be able to get where you wanna go if you neglect your #1 asset (that’s you!). If you’re starting or running your own business, too many late nights and not enough sleep can wreak havoc on your system. If you’re climbing the ladder with 13 hour days in your desk chair, you may not be able to climb an actual ladder in 10 years. If you deny yourself that piece of really good chocolate all the time, stress + resentment WILL kick in. You probably know that good food and moving your body are key to taking care of yourself, but what else does your body + mind need to feel pampered and taken care of? The following six items are pretty non-negotiable when it comes to sustainable physical and mental health. The exact mix is a little different for everyone, but we all need a little of every single one… yes, even you. (Learn More)

How the president stays on schedule
(Jim Vaughan) In 1988, I had the honor of working for President Reagan and VP George H W Bush. I learned about many things that happen out of the public's eye. Being a lifelong student of personal success, I pay close attention to what successful people do to be so successful. How does the president stay on schedule all day long? The president's work day usually begins about 7AM and doesn't end most nights until 8-9-10-11 after a social function of some kind. Keeping the president on schedule is no easy task. If he sees you in a reception line and stops to talk to you for five minutes, where does that time come from? Planning the president's day starts off with a basic outline that contains a personal one hour block of time in the AM hours and another one hour block of time in the afternoon. These two one hour "breaks" belong to the president. They are his personal timeouts to do with as he pleases. The 10AM break might start 15-20 minutes later than scheduled but, at exactly 11AM, the president is back on schedule. The afternoon break works the same way. Suggestion: Add a couple of time breaks to your daily schedule to help keep you and your activities on schedule all day long.

(DailyFinance.com) Quick quiz: How much do you make per hour? If you're an hourly employee, that was easy to answer. If you're salaried, you had to do a little math: $X annual salary divided by 52 weeks, then divided by X hours per week equals your hourly wage. For example, $50,000 a year divided 52 weeks equals $961.53 per week, and $961.53 divided by 40 hours per week equals $24.03 per hour. Got your number? Good. Now hold that number in your mind for a moment, then let it go. Because what you're actually making per hour is likely much less. (Learn More)
