The Science of Changing Your Nasty Habits --- Once and For All
Picture
(Learning-Mind.com) As human beings we are creatures of habit — As Aristotle exclaimed, we are, what we repeatedly do. But what happens when what we do over and over again, turns into a perpetual nightmare and we get stuck in a never-ending habit loop? What meant to start off as a light glass of milk before bed turns into a desert gorging session right before going to sleep every night. Or that seemingly harmless hour of video game playing after work, evolves into an all-night obsession. Whatever toxic habit grows in your field — can be healed. We all understand that we as humans have vices and temptations — it is only when these temptations take life and begin to warp our reality that it comes to our attention. When we begin to feel like our days are hazy and living is now secondary to whatever we’re doing. But there is hope, acclaimed neurophysiologist John Lilly, MD, worked extensively to solve the conundrum of toxic behaviors and altering our mindsets. During his work at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, Dr. John Lilly began his world-famous research called “Programming and Metaprogramming the Human BioComputer” where he sought to answer the perplexing question, “How can the mind utilize it’s faculties to study itself and reprogram our learned behaviors and mindsets?” (Learn More)

A New Management Model Lets Employees Do Whatever They Want
Picture

Productivity

(CapitalismIsFreedom.com) In 2003, Cali Ressler and Jody Thompson were developing new human resources guidelines at Best Buy, the electronics retailer, when they suggested a profound shift in the way the company managed its employees. They wondered what might happen if they granted workers 100 percent autonomy and expected of them 100 percent accountability. What if employees were judged solely on the work they did and not at all on the manner in which they did it?  Ressler and Thompson dubbed their plan the Results-Only Work Environment, or ROWE. The scheme involved some radical proposals. People could work from home absolutely anytime they felt like it, without needing a reason or excuse. There would be no such thing as a sick day or a vacation allotment—employees could take off as much time as they wanted, whenever they saw fit. Perhaps most provocative: All meetings would be optional. Even if your boss had invited you. Don’t think you need to be there? Don’t come. (Learn More)

Practical Tips on How to Find Your Purpose in Life
Picture

Spirituality

(Learning-Mind.com) It’s the age-old question asked by people in different parts of the world – “What is my purpose in life?” In other words, “What am I here to accomplish?” Figuring out your place in the world can be a difficult feat, especially since nowadays, people expect you to have it all figured out at an early age. For a few lucky people, the calling does come early, and they spend their days living out their dream. But what about the rest of us? For those of us who found our purpose later in life (or for those who are still searching), all is not lost. First, figure out why you are searching for your life purpose. Is it because of a deep interest in what you were meant to do in life, or because someone (or some article) stated you needed to have a purpose in life? If it is the latter, reconsider your search; there is no harm in simply floating through life (albeit being a productive member of society) for a bit. However, if you have the nagging urge to truly discover what you were meant to do in your life, read on. (Learn More)

Touching Reason a Teen Called 9-1-1

"Happy Endings"

Picture
(ABC News) It's not the type of emergency phone call the Sumter, South Carolina  Police Department gets too terribly often, but what happened after Officer Gaetano Acerra responded is even more rare.  "He called and was very distraught and very upset," Acerra, 24, told ABC News of the unusual call they received from 13-year-old, Cameron Simmons. "He was threatening to run away and leave the house. That's all the information I had."  When Acerra responded to the call, Cameron was across the street from his home at a corner convenience store. The boy had used the store's phone to dial 911 to tell them he no longer wished to live at his home. (Learn More)
