3 Lessons From The Keynote Master - Steve Jobs
Winners Fail More Often Than Losers Lose
Failure Means Nothing to real entrepreneurs:
1) Sir James Dyson knows something about perseverance. The Dyson founder notably created 5,127 prototypes of his Dual Cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner before striking gold. It would become the foundation of his 21-year-old company. In addition to constantly innovating and iterating on appliances, customers use every day -- from vacuums to fans and hand dryers -- Dyson and his team have also been at work on some fairly prescient gadgets many people have never seen. Back in 2001, Dyson built a prototype called the Dyson Halo, a portable digital headset that would allow the user to check their e-mail, use applications and get help from a virtual assistant. His precursor to Google Glass also included some now-familiar hardware, including a smartwatch-esque wrist controller. Dyson also invented an automobile engine that could filter out environmental toxins, along with a digital motor. While none of these inventions have made it to market, it hasn't stopped the entrepreneur from recently investing £8 million in a robotics lab and ponying up £420 million to expand its R&D facility. 2) Walt Disney denied 302 times for a loan to start Disneyland. Fired from first job for not being creative enough. One of his first businesses ran out of money and went bankrupt after only 2 years. Today the company holds over 100 billion in assets. 3) Albert Einstein 4) J.K. Rowling 5) Abraham Lincoln 6) Oprah Winfrey, She’s a billionaire with her own TV channel and a penchant for giving away cars but Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first TV job as an anchor in Baltimore. In 2013, Oprah reflected on her experiences during a Harvard commencement speech: “There is no such thing as failure. Failure is just life trying to move us in another direction.” Creating your own TV channel is a sure way never to get fired again! 7) Michael Jordan, Either he was part of the greatest high school roster of all time or his coach made a huge mistake in cutting Michael Jordan from his high school basketball team. Six Championships and five MVPs later, Jordan became arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. Jordan famously said: “I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” I can go on with a list as long as your arm, the point is to learn from your mistakes because failure is only a failure if you give up and never get up. Personally, I have been down and broke more times than I have been up with winning and successful ventures, but we keep going because it's in our BLOOD. Moe Nawaz (Facebook) |
